About the World Council

Greetings and Welcome YMCA family!

We invite you to begin planning to come to the 18th World Council in 2014 – Empowering Young People, which will take place from Sunday, June 29 to Saturday, July 5 in Estes Park Colorado – USA.

The World Council is the meeting of YMCA movements from all over the world, organized every 4 years by the World Alliance of YMCAs and hosted in 2014 by the YMCA of the USA. During the event, YMCAs will come together to share, learn, and build on the work of the NEW WAY strategy.

The World Council theme in 2014 is Empowering Young People.

Get excited! We sure are.

The World Alliance Team

The World Council will take place 29 June through 5 July 2014 at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, USA. National General Secretaries and Change Agents will continue for a forum on 5-6 July.

The World Council programme will have 5 core elements: business session/governance, learning sessions, networking, strategic directions, group work/collective sharing and positioning for telling our collective YMCA story  through once-in-a-lifetime performance. At the World Council, everyone will join in creating the collective story of the YMCA global movement.

Location

Estes Park, Colorado — Surrounded on three sides by Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Park Center is a mountain community offering recreational and programming activities that include wildlife viewing, individual and guided hiking tours into the park, horseback riding, swimming, fishing, hayrides, a zip line, two performing arts centers, a variety of educational programs and of the finest craft shops in America.

The quaint town of nearby Estes Park offers a variety of restaurants, shops and festivals throughout the year, and more wildlife than any other destination in Colorado. Elk, deer and an occasional bear frequent both Estes Park Center and the town of Estes Park.

One of the YMCA of the Rockies two facilities, Estes Park Center offers a variety of affordable accommodations, including family and family reunion cabins (most with fireplaces), and comfortable lodge rooms located close to the Center’s core recreational, dining and meeting facilities.
